Welcoming UpKeep to the Emergence family

We’re delighted to announce that Emergence has led UpKeep’s Series A financing. UpKeep develops mobile applications that help maintenance and repair workers get their jobs done more effectively. The market UpKeep addresses is made up of mostly deskless workers -- employees that are in the field or that working remotely. Deskless workers comprise 80 percent of the global workforce, yet this huge segment has been largely overlooked by technology providers.

When we heard Ryan Chan, the CEO and Founder of UpKeep, talk about why he created the product, we knew it had the potential to change the way maintenance workers collaborated. Ryan saw the challenges maintenance teams faced when he was working as a process development engineer at a manufacturing plant. One of the biggest problems at Ryan’s plant was the cumbersome process they used to manage maintenance projects. The team had to write up paper work orders while they were in the plant, and then take them back to their desk to enter them into a desktop application. Many of the forms were lost, and a lot of time was wasted too. So, Ryan set out to improve that process and in doing so created UpKeep.

We’ve talked to many of UpKeep’s more than 1,000 customers and it’s clear that the app is already helping maintenance teams save time and money. For example, the director of engineering at Marriott recounted how his former paper-based maintenance system required many hours to prioritize, assign, and review a maintenance request. With UpKeep, Marriott’s technicians can get the same work done in a fraction of the time. Jet.com’s facilities manager told us that now his team can create their own work orders and the company has eliminated administration hours. These are but a few of the many amazing customer testimonials that we received from UpKeep’s users.

UpKeep is not only getting accolades from its customers (and from us, of course), but is also being recognized by leading software analysts. UpKeep was named a Top CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Solution) in Software Advice’s 2018 FrontRunners Report and was recognized as a Facility Management Category Leader by Get App. UpKeep is a Y Combinator Winter 2017 alumni, and Ryan was named to Forbes 30 under 30 in 2017.
