“Coming to Emergence has been going back to my roots.”

Kevin Spain has spent the past 17 years at Emergence Capital turning his passion for entrepreneurship into a career defined by supporting founders through the company building journey. During his tenure, he has led some of the firm’s most notable investments, including Doximity (NYSE: DOCS), Blend (NYSE: BLND), and Augmedix (NASDAQ: AUGX). Kevin remains on the board of Doximity, where he has helped guide the team from its early days to a publicly traded company with a $10 billion market cap—an enduring testament to his ability to help founders scale with vision and discipline.
Kevin’s entrepreneurial roots run deep. As the Co-founder and CEO of atMadison.com during the dot-com boom, he experienced firsthand the rollercoaster ride of building a startup. That experience shaped his approach to venture: Kevin celebrates the highs with founders, but he prides himself on being a steady, trusted partner during the lows. His combination of empathy and strategic guidance makes him a cornerstone for the founders he works with.
Before joining Emergence, Kevin was a senior member of Microsoft’s corporate development team, where he played a key role in launching Electronic Arts’ original online gaming business. The relationships he built during this time, with some of the tech industry’s most accomplished leaders, continue to inform his work today. Kevin regularly leverages his network to connect newer entrepreneurs with valuable resources and expertise.
A Kauffman Fellow, Kevin holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin. A proud native Texan, he’s always on the hunt for great barbecue and Southern food in the Bay Area.
Kevin’s unwavering dedication to founders, coupled with his proven ability to guide companies from startup to industry leader, exemplifies the qualities that make him an indispensable force in the venture capital ecosystem.
