Havana Nights: Our 10th Annual Terrace Party

Last night was our tenth annual Emergence Capital Terrace Party. As we celebrated the start of summer with our colleagues in the tech community, we also took some time to reflect on this milestone for Emergence.

We moved into our current office, with its wrap around terrace, ten years ago. When we first saw the terrace it was love at first sight and we couldn’t wait to share this spectacular space with our friends. What started as an intimate gathering has now become a well-attended industry event with portfolio companies execs (past and present), fellow VCs, entrepreneurs, and the broader tech community, representing the full range of the industry all celebrating together. To us, this growth is not just about our party getting better each year (which it has), but is indicative of a larger trend-- the growth in the enterprise startup ecosystem.

There has never been a more exciting time to be an enterprise investor. Over the last ten years, we’ve stayed committed to our original thesis-- that enterprise software would move to the cloud. Our thesis is as relevant today as it was a decade ago, as we continue to invest in those innovators who are changing how we do business. Our recent investment in ZenPayroll is a great example of this, and we are very excited to see how enterprise technology will continue to shape the future of work.

Our tenth annual terrace party also stands for something else-- our belief that venture capital is more about people than it is about money. We value the tradition of taking time out each Spring to celebrate the people in our collective community.
