Yaz El-Baba is a Partner at Emergence Capital, embodying the firm’s commitment to backing visionary founders. Since joining as an Associate in 2019, Yaz has demonstrated a unique blend of strategic insight and relentless drive, contributing significantly to investments in companies such as Unify, Maze, Mechanical Orchard, Together, and Arcee AI.

Raised in a Palestinian-American entrepreneurial family, Yaz’s upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for innovation and perseverance. This background fuels his dedication to supporting founders, understanding firsthand the challenges they face.  

Before Emergence, Yaz honed his expertise at LinkedIn, where he played pivotal roles in Business Operations and Corporate Development. He led go-to-market strategies for major business lines and contributed to M&A and corporate venture initiatives, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of scaling businesses.  

Yaz’s academic credentials include a degree in Finance and Strategy from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, graduating with High Distinction. At Michigan, Yaz commentated for the Big Ten Network, and was captain of the University of Michigan Boxing Team. As captain of the boxing program, Yaz led the co-ed group to 3 team National Titles, and was the individual 125 lb National Champion at the 2014 Collegiate Boxing National Championship. Aside from boxing, Yaz is a competitive Muay Thai fighter, and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
