Wendy Lu
Principal
“Technology, like art, is a soaring exercise of the human imagination.”
Wendy is a Principal at Emergence Capital. Growing up between Silicon Valley, Beijing, and Hong Kong, she was immersed in an environment that nurtured so many entrepreneurs and generational companies, making a career in engineering and supporting startups a natural path.
Wendy brings over a decade of experience in engineering and product development. She graduated from college when “mobile apps” were still a novel concept and quickly immersed herself in the startup ecosystem. She began her career at Bump Technologies (acquired by Google) and later joined Pinterest as an early engineer. At Pinterest, Wendy led various new product engineering efforts, from pioneering Pinterest’s e-commerce initiatives to developing the ads engineering stack.
Following Pinterest’s IPO, Wendy joined Airtable, where she led the creation of Airtable’s growth organization focused on user acquisition, onboarding, and monetization. She also led teams dedicated to foundational infrastructure and established Airtable’s entry into AI as Director of Engineering.
A builder at heart, Wendy is passionate about differentiated technology, product-led growth, and tools serving developers and creatives. She is dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs with product and technical strategy, hiring, and building high-performing organizations. Wendy also runs a collective of technical operator angels who share her excitement for partnering with early-stage companies.
Wendy earned her degree in Computer Science from Stanford University, where she was a member of the Class Cabinet and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society.
When not diving into the latest AI paper on arXiv, she’s diving into the SF Bay as a competitor in open water swim races. Wendy also enjoys cycling, hiking (along with most other sports), travel, and reading classic literature.
